Project Elements

Transforming your property is a multi-dimensional process requiring a thoughtful design approach. We view your property as a blank canvas, waiting to be outfitted with a variety of complementing elements that integrate seamlessly, creating beautiful yet functional spaces, depicting a total reflection of your lifestyle – both aesthetically and in functionality.

Capturing these elements in the design to achieve your vision, is what we do best.

We use these elements in the design process to interpret the environment in which we exist and enjoy on a daily basis. The integration of these elements varies for each project, based on the site, project scope and overall intent of the design. Ensuring these elements flow together seamlessly throughout the design is our goal. Integrating these elements into one cohesive design and then constructing and managing every aspect from start to finish is the LandArt difference.

Hardscape

Hardscape generally refers to hard landscape materials in the built environment that are incorporated into a landscape. This can include paved areas, walkways, driveways, patios, steps, stoops, retaining walls or any other element of a site made up of hard wearing materials such as stone, concrete, brick etc. The integration of this element into the design is critical in developing the parameters and overall functionality of the site. Hardscape features are developed to define spaces, determine boundaries & access, provide screening and increase functionality with the integration of landscaping features that would otherwise be impossible, such as retaining walls being constructed on a hillside to allow for a swimming pool. The finer details of Hardscaping can be recognized through the use of patterns, colors, textures, site furnishings and even artistic sculpture.

Structure

A Structure is mainly purpose driven and therefore generally dictates the functionality of the overall design. Structure can refer to outbuildings and other features that add functionality and enhance the appearance of the outdoor living space. This can be accomplished through the integration of features such as Pool Houses, Pavilions, Boat Houses, Green Houses, Decks, Porches, Outdoor Kitchens, Pergolas, Gazebos, Fireplaces, Guest Quarters, and any general improvements regarding renovations and/or new construction. As such, we take the time to not only create sound custom structures that fit your personalized needs and property constraints, but are also an appealing, complimentary piece to the overall “look” we wish to achieve. Whether that is matching architectural elements of existing structures of the home and property, or transforming a backyard space into an outdoor oasis, together we discuss every beam, stone and nail to ensure the strongest foundation (to the project, and the tangible structure) is laid.

Landscape

Landscape in general refers to the visible features of the land and in theory encompasses all elements of the site. On a smaller scale, it goes far beyond changing the contours of the land and planting a few trees and shrubs. Good landscape design should enhance the quality of life for the user and the surrounding natural environment, melding the other elements together as it provides backgrounds and screening, defines spaces, complements structures and softens hardscapes. The arrangement and placement of plantings are all based on certain plant characteristics and time tested principles. The visual characteristics of a plants size, form, texture and color contribute to the functional and aesthetic qualities of the overall design. Beyond plantings Landscape refers to irrigation & fertilization systems, rain gardens & bio-retention ponds, water reclamation systems to capture, filter and re-purpose storm water, erosion controls to protect the integrity of the design allowing it to work with Mother Nature and subtle landscape lighting to provide illumination for aesthetics, access and security. Most importantly, through thoughtful design a relationship is forged with the natural environment, integrating native flora and supporting local fauna, perpetuating our designs as stewards of the land.

Water

Water, a fundamental design element, and a neutral architectural element that cannot be clearly classified as natural or built. An essential part to any comprehensive outdoor living space is incorporating the natural element of water. Like plants, water has qualities that change over time and in different light and weather conditions. It is capable of producing a wide variety of effects, from that of a still pond, to the excitement of a cascading waterfall. Innovative and creative designs enhance the drama and beauty that water can bring to a landscape design. Carefully planned water features add beauty, functionality and value to a property. Whether this includes a modern vanishing edge swimming pool design, complete with a built-in hot tub and waterfall or a simple, elegant water feature to compliment a courtyard entry – we approach each with a level of care and expertise that is sure to provide an incredible outcome. With an industry educated team, dedicated and experienced in the design, engineering & construction of cutting edge pools, ponds, spas and water features focused on efficiency and simplicity for the user, we walk with you every step of the way to create a one of a kind water element that is sure to completely transform your outdoor living space.

The Traditional Problem To Avoid:

While you might save some money initially, poor planning and inferior workmanship always result in higher long-term costs and loss of enjoyment to you.

Sure, you can find a reputable pool company to install a new pool or renovate your existing one, have a mason come in to build new retaining walls around your pool that you did not know you needed and while he is there have him construct a fireplace on your new patio. Then you hire your neighbor’s brother “The Carpenter” to build a new deck and maybe talk you into that pool house or pavilion you’ve thought about so many summers past. Once that blows over your probably going to need a new driveway, plants, grass, walkways, lights and don’t forget the irrigation system. Did I mention permits? Feeling overwhelmed thinking about it?

Most “do it yourselfer” projects end up stifled before they are even started due to permitting complications or end up in turmoil due to improper planning.

This is “The Problem” that most homeowners unknowingly enter into when undertaking a large project.
